It's Amazing

THIS is what all the commotion is about:

This is the most highly anticipated knitting book in history. OK, that's just my opinion. Oh, yeah, and the opinion of soooooooo many others. On Ravelry the original Cookie's Socks group has 2556 members and still growing. There are several other Ravelry groups devoted to individual patterns. And this very book has spawned two knitalongs. Our knitalong group, Makin' Cookie's, is 780 members strong and also growing. I challenge you to find a nicer bunch of knitters anywhere - our amazing members make the group the fantastic thing it is. We will start our knitalong with the book on 1st of May using the Glynis pattern:
Please come and join us. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, when it comes to sock patterns designed by Cookie A

resistance is futile, you will be assimilated

I waited what seems an eternity for this book, and it arrived today. As you can see above, it was well worth the wait.

Cookie, thank YOU!

Oooh, we got blogged about again

My delightful cyber-pal and fellow fibre/sock obsessed halfasheep has started up her blog posting again. You'll love the beginning of the most recent post, an ode to socks by Pablo Neruda. You have to go check out her blog and read it yourselves here. Even Pablo appreciated a good pair of socks!

Halfasheep also kindly gave our Ravelry group a plug, so if you'd like a slightly less biased opinion than mine of our KAL group go see what she has to say.

Apart from this she has lots of sock chatter and writes with style!

Cookie of the Week

Our very first "Cookie of the Week:

has been awarded to:

'klcknits'

for her generousity to a fellow Makin' Cookie's Raveler.
We, in our knitting group, Makin' Cookie's on Ravelry, have been doing a sock knitalong with designer Cookie A's patterns while awaiting the release of her first book! We are all getting very excited as the long awaited book, Sock Innovation, by Cookie A, has finally been released. Although not all of us have our copies yet, we are happy for those who have (ha!) and who are sharing all the amazing details regarding patterns and the section on designing our own socks!
You can read about the book, here, from the publishers, Interweave Press. The book is available for purchase from them, all the amazon online sites, various book sellers and yarn stores.
We cannot recommend it highly enough, the book is one part pattern design (enouraging you to design your very own socks based on Cookie A's classes and workshops) and one part patterns - 15 in all!
We hope that most, if not all, of our members will have their copies by the end of April and we will be doing our first knitalong using a BOOK pattern starting 1st of May. You can join us! Become a member of Ravelry, then join the group: Makin' Cookie's. In the meantime, we are spending April choosing any Cookie pattern already released (not in the book) to knitalong with, just to keep us going. Remember, you can join us, by joining Ravelry then our group. If you are already a Raveler, join our group here or go straight to the April knitalong talk here.

We have a group on Ravelry called Makin' Cookie's. You can check out the knitalong group here. (link only works if your a member see previous post) We are knitting along with sock patterns from the book Sock Innovations, by designer Cookie A. Read a review of the book here. Come join us. If you want to read why, well, we got blogged about!!!!!!!!!!! and you can read someone else's recommendation, lol. My lovely pal who is kindly donating some gorgeous yarn to our knitalong AND has joined the knitalong (although she is competing with me for slowest knitter award) is talking us up. Read the blog here. It's a great blog all around, not just the mention of us. The photography is wonderful, and the glimpse into her joyous life is well worth the visit. She also sells on etsy at Juno Fibre Arts found here. Just look at this:

Ravelry

Maybe you are aware of the phenomenon that is Ravelry? If not, and you are a knitter, crocheter, spinner, or fibre-freak of any kind you need to be. The online Ravelry community is a place for knitters, crocheters, designers, spinners, and dyers to organize their materials, to share yarn, tools, and patterns with each other, and look to interact with others for support, ideas and inspiration. Ravelry is the brainchild and of a couple named Jess and Casey. Casey is a computer programmer and Jess a blogger and knitter. Together they came up with their 'baby'. If you're not yet a member, until you become one (an I know you will) you can take a look at the convenient SNEAK PEEK Casey has made available. By becoming a member, or requiring membership, Ravelry is in no way attempting to be 'exclusive'. It's just that Ravelry has become SUCH an on-line presence, nearing the 300,000 member mark, that it takes Jess and Casey and their faithful helpers time to get through all the requests. All you need to do to become a member is click on 'join the invite list' in the upper right hand corner of the SNEAK PEEK page. Then you enter your email address. That's it! 4-7 days later, depending on how many requests Ravelry is getting, you will receive and invite email, follow the link and you're ready to become a Raveler!!! For me, Ravelry is a gift from the fibre gods. I have learned many things, met many wonderful 'cyber-friends', helped others and been helped. I enjoy the Ravelry experience so much that I began my own group (anyone can) based on knitting socks. But this post is FOR THE LOVE OF RAVELRY. More later on the sock group.
